According to an impact evaluation by FHI 360, students who participate in the JA Building a Financially Capable Generation learning experience gain valuable knowledge, skills, and attitudes for managing their financial health and well-being.
A team of students in Malta earned first place in the 2023 Global FinCap Challenge. Teams from Vietnam and New York earned second and third place, respectively.
We created an educational app, FinQuest, to inspire youth ages 12-16 to take ownership of their financial future. Now, thanks to our partners at HSBC, we are able to offer FinQuest to users around the world at no charge.
Financial literacy is what you know. Financial capability is what you can do. JA Worldwide will bring this message to the World Education Summit this week.

Where do parents go to learn how to talk with their children about money matters? Gloria in Hong Kong, SAR-China found the best opportunity to learn how to approach financial conversations with young people was to volunteer in the JA Building a Financially Capable Generation initiative.
Neither Jophy nor Hilarie had much experience talking about money matters. In fact, they did not have much interest in it, either, until they participated in the JA Building a Financially Capable Generation initiative.
FinQuest teaches youth the basics of managing money day to day, skills and attitudes for lifelong financial health, and strategies for navigating life’s financial ups and downs.
FinQuest features four quests designed for youth ages 12-16. Each Quest contains a series of fun activities, minigames, challenges, and quizzes. Youth create avatars and compete against peers in classrooms and communities worldwide.

Youth, teachers, volunteers, parents, and JA staff can use the FinQuest app to track progress and coach groups of students through the self-directed learning experience. Just create a “Quest Leader” account, create your own group, and share the group ID# with your students.
FinQuest is available in 13 languages: Arabic, Bahasa, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), English, French, German, Malti, Melayu, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Users can also select from several currencies.

In 2023, teachers and volunteers in JA 15 locations are delivering the three-part learning experience to groups of students ages 12-16 in schools, community centers, and virtual spaces.
