Enterprising Mindsets Abound at Young Enterprise UK

November 10, 2020

It all begins with mindset, and the brilliant minds at Young Enterprise UK have been busy this autumn, amplifying the voices of enterprising individuals with its “Enterprising Mindsets” live discussion, accompanying report, and podcast series.

Launched on September 1, 2020, the “Enterprising Minds Podcast,” hosted by Young Enterprise UK CEO Sharon Davies, features weekly conversations between Sharon and teachers, entrepreneurs, NGO professionals, and business leaders, exploring different perspectives when it comes to enterprising mindsets.

Young Enterprise UK, part of JA Europe and a member of JA Worldwide, defines the enterprising mindset a person’s use of initiative and creativity to overcome challenges. Young Enterprise UK endeavors to “[bring] educators, employers, charities, entrepreneurs and future leaders together in a bid to understand what this mindset looks like, how we can work together to nurture it and support young people to build their futures in this current and future environment.”

In the live discussion, “Enterprising Mindsets: A Breakfast Conversation with Gordon Brown,” held on November 4, 2020, former British Prime Minister Brown, a recognized champion of youth opportunity, shared his perspective on helping young people prepare for the future and how everyone can play a part to unlock the potential of young people in the coming years.

Everybody has a talent, everybody has potential, everybody is unique, and everybody’s got something special to offer – it’s our job to help people bridge the gap between what they are and what they have in themselves to become.
— Gordon Brown, United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education & Former British Prime Minister

The live discussion also featured a cross-sector, multigenerational panel featuring voices from education, business, and the youth sector, exploring some of the big questions around support for this generation in a post-COVID world.

The accompanying report illustrates the conversation that took place in the webinar, bringing together the ideas, inspiring stories, and recommendations so stakeholders can act now to give young people the skills and help establish the mindset they need to succeed.

Young Enterprise UK’s vision is that every young person is provided with the opportunity to learn the vital skills needed to earn and look after their money, to develop an enterprising mindset and make a valuable contribution to their communities and wider society.
