During Global Volunteer Month, Marsh & McLennan colleagues volunteered a whopping 850 hours with Junior Achievement, one of our global nonprofit partners. Junior Achievement prepares young people around the world to succeed in a global economy. The organization's mission aligns with our nonprofit focus on education, and we have similar global geographic footprints.
During the month of May [in 2016], colleagues in over 21 locations volunteered their time to empower and educate the next generation—from Colombia to Indonesia and many places in between. Toronto colleague Marc Leduc reflected on his experience: "It was so much fun to spend the day with young students and see them learning and already thinking about their future and the possibilities." Here's some of what our colleagues did with Junior Achievement in May.
Halifax, Canada: Colleagues in Marsh's Halifax office volunteered with Junior Achievement's Dollars with Sense program in Nova Scotia. The program focuses on improving student's financial literacy skills and teaching the importance of budgeting, saving and investing money.
Mexico City: Marsh volunteers in Mexico City hosted a Job Shadow Day, which gave students the opportunity to learn about fundamental business concepts by observing and reporting on the people, facilities, technology and benefits within the company.
New York City: In New York City, the Asian Colleague Resource Group (ACRG), invited colleagues from across the operating companies to serve as teachers for a day, delivering lessons on running a business, exploring careers, and the importance of voting and money management.
Bogota, Colombia: Marsh colleagues in Bogotá assisted with Junior Achievement's Beyond Money program, which teaches kids about money management in everyday life and the benefits of having a bank account and other tools, to help them understand the concepts of social and economic sustainability.
