Marsh McLennan Hosts Job-Shadow Day for JA Students
May 27, 2021
As part of its Global Volunteer Month, Marsh McLennan and JA set a goal for 150 Marsh McLennan employee volunteers to host 150 JA students from around the world for virtual job shadow experiences. In the end, more than 150 students from Latin America, North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific were able to participate together with more than 150 Marsh McLennan volunteer mentors, surpassing the original goal.
Marsh McLennan puts corporate citizenship and community engagement at the center of its mission, and JA is proud to be one of its nonprofit partners. Each May, JA and Marsh McLennan celebrate Global Volunteer Month, putting a spotlight on our partnership, through which engaged employee volunteers empower young people around the world. Over the past five years, more than 3,000 Marsh McLennan employees in more than 35 countries have donated their time and talent to inspire, motivate, and mentor JA students. Experiential opportunities like job shadows expose students to critical skill sets, including collaboration, creativity, self-confidence, and resilience, preparing them for higher education, the workforce, and entrepreneurship.
During JA Job Shadow days, whether in-person or virtual, JA students meet one-on-one with volunteer mentors to discuss career trajectories and ask questions about mentors’ jobs. Students drive the conversations, asking about career paths, skill sets, day-to-day job tasks, giving them great exposure to the corporate experience. Volunteers also ask students questions, such as what JA has taught them and what their career goals are.
