Team MyCryptoHippo Wins FedEx Junior Business Challenge; JA of Central Ontario Awarded $75,000
September 19, 2018
Back in March, FedEx and JA launched season two of the FedEx Junior Business Challenge, an extension of the JA Company Program produced in conjunction with the PGA TOUR and FedEx Cup in U.S. and Canadian cities. At each event, held throughout the spring and summer, JA students participated in Shark Tank–style presentations, pitching original business ideas to a panel of judges comprised of local business leaders and PGA TOUR players.
In September, the winning team from each event traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for the PGA TOUR Championship and FedEx Junior Business Challenge Final. The four JA student-led companies were evaluated on their pitch skills, presentation content, visual aids, and connection to innovation, sustainability, and job creation. Celebrity judges—including FedEx President & CEO, David Cunningham, who serves on the JA Worldwide Board of Governors—selected MyCryptoHippo as the winner. This tech company educates GenZ about cryptocurrencies and blockchain through a hands-on cryptocurrency simulator that features, as you might have guessed, a playful hippo! The students’ JA location, JA of Central Ontario, received the challenge grand prize: a $75,000 donation from FedEx.
